. FOLLY BEACH - Preston Monroe Blanton, Jr., husband of Verna Huggins Blanton, entered into eternal rest on the evening of October 6, 2011 at his Folly Beach home surrounded by his family. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Preston Monroe Blanton, Jr. are invited to attend the funeral services of the former Sunday, October 9, 2011, at 3:00 pm in Folly Beach Baptist Church, 77 Center Street. Interment, Old St. Andrews Episcopal Churchyard, Hwy. 61.

Mr. Blanton, Jr. was born October 17, 1927 in Mullins, SC, the son of Dr. Preston Monroe Blanton, Sr. and Lottie Smith Blanton. He was a graduate of The College of Charleston and received his Masters in Education at The Citadel.

Mr. Blanton taught at Fort Johnson High School and James Island High School for 34 years. He served with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

Preston was a charter member of Folly Beach Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and a Sunday School Teacher.

He is survived by his wife of sixty years; one daughter: Beverly B. Parsons (George) of Georgetown, SC; one son: Preston Monroe Blanton, III (Pam) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; four grandchildren: Elizabeth Blanton, Michael Blanton, Hannah Parsons and Rebekah Parsons. Mr. Blanton was predeceased by two sisters Margarett B. Samuels and Joyce B. Lasne.

The family expresses deep gratitude to the caregivers at Southern Care Hospice and our extended church families for their love and support over the past several months.
