Alice Munger Maphet was born in Indiana to David Allen Munger and Amanda Eastlick Munger. She and John Robert were married 19 Aug 1866 in Palmyra, Douglas, Kansas. They had 9 children, John Arthur,1867; Allena, 1869; Effie Mae,1871; Emma Estelle (Emily),1873; Chloe Alice,1877; Clara Louise,1881; Charles Luther, 1881; Cyrus Earnest, 1885 and Sanderson Alexander, 1888. All were born in Kansas with the exception of Chloe, born in California. Clara and Charlie were twins. Two of Alice's Grandfather's served in the Revoluntionary War. Her mother Amanda lived close by to she and J. R. and she died a short time before Alice. They both died of consumption. Amanda is buried right by Alice and J.R. Alice's mother took over the role of being a stepmother to David's children and had Alice as her first born with David and five other children, Emily, Harriet Jane, Charlotte (Polly), Mary Ellen (Ella) and Charles. Alice's half brother that was Amanda's son by 1rst marriage was Arthur Dunbar. David had eight other children between two separate wives. Alice's half brother Louis Chapin Munger, fought with her husband J. R. in the Civil War in the Kansas 9th Calvary.
