Mabel Louis Bateman, age 104, of Gambier passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2017 at the Ohio Eastern Star Home in Mount Vernon, Ohio.

She was born on October 8, 1912 in Galena, Ohio to the late George and Abbie (Lee) Armstrong.

Mabel was a 1929 graduate of Howard High School and a graduate of Mt. Vernon Business College. She worked in the payroll department of Cooper-Bessemer and in the office of the SS Kresge Store in Mt. Vernon. She was clerk of the Kokosing Valley School District until its dissolution. Mabel was a correspondent for the Mt. Vernon News was a member of the United Methodist Church and attended the Howard Christian Church with many dear friends.

Mabel is survived by her son John (Sue) Bateman of Gambier; three grandchildren, Kelly (Tammy) Chellis of Columbus, James (Renee) Bateman of Gambier and Ericka (Sean) Warns of Toledo; and nine great-grandchildren, Shelby (Ken) Zugg, Devin (Savannah), Blake, Savannah and Sophia Bateman, Elaina and Kelcie Warns and Victoria and Julia Chellis.

In addition to her parents, Mabel was preceded in death by her husband, who she married on July 4, 1935, John G. Bateman; and her daughter Marilyn Bateman.

Friends may call on Thursday, February 2, 2017 from 11-1PM at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home. A service will follow beginning at 1PM with Rev. Ben McKinstry officiating. Burial will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery in Gambier.
