OBITUARY

Ellis Walter Hopkins, son of Gary and Lou Alice Hopkins, was born at Gravity, Iowa on Dec. 20, 1896, and passed away enroute to the Veterans Hospital in Denver on Jan. 26, 1965 at the age of 68 years, 1 month, and 6 days.

His early days were spent in the Gavity area where he attended school. Here also he was baptized and became a member of the Christian Church.

On March 5, 1924 at Oberlin, he was united in marrige with Olga Koehler. A home was established in Oberlin, and nine children were born to bless the home. Mr. Hopkins worked the carpenter trade most of his life. He served his country in World War I, and was a member of the American Legion. He moved to McDonald in 1944 where he lived until the time of his death.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and by a brother, Raymond, and a sister, Dorthea. He is survived by Mrs. Hopkins of McDonald; sons, Lemoin of Englewood, Calif., and Gary, Jerry and Clinton, all of McDonald. His surviving daughters are Mrs. Nita Giles of Culver City, Calif., Mrs Yvonnia Sawyer of Rushville, Nebr., Mrs. Joan Tongish of McDonald, Mrs. Janet Chisham of Bird City, and Mrs. Janice Horenik of Aurora, Colo. There is a son and a daughter by a previous marriage; Norman Hopkins of San Mateo, Calif. and Mrs. Josephine Allen of Long Beach, Calif. There are 17 grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers Glen Hopkins of Grand Island, Nebr., and Dale Hopkins and wife of Doniphen, Nebr.; Galen Hopkins and wife of Pendleton, Ore.; a sister, Mrs. Fern Hattin and husband of Menlo; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Raymond Hopkins of North Platte, Nebr.

Funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon from the Federated Church with Rev. Clarence Swihart officiating. Interment was in the McDonald cemetery.
