Rev. Joseph M. Walter, who died at the home of his father in Baltimore a few days ago after a long illness, was regarded as a young man of unusual promise. He began to study for the priesthood at the age of fifteen years. After studying for five years he was compelled, on account of ill health, to leave college and went to Europe. Subsequently he entered the American College at Rome, but after remaining there a year he was again compelled by bad health to give up his studies. He then returned to this country and entered St. Mary’s Seminary, Baltimore, where about five years ago he was ordained priest. During the succeeding six years he had charge of parishes in various parts of Maryland, but last fall he was compelled to lay aside the work, and, all hope of regaining his health being abandoned, he went to live at his father’s home, where his death occurred as stated.

He was commissioned by St. Patrick's in Washington DC to write the story of his uncle, Rev. Jacob A. Walter who served St. Patrick's in the District of Columbia for over twenty years.
