Charles Walter Maney was the son of Jesse Garner Maney 1820 and Sarah Elizabeth Wright. His parents had moved from Orange County, New York to Lind, Waupaca, Wisconsin, a few years before he was born.

Charles married Mary Elizabeth Holland, the daughter of William Holland 1809, and Mary Carver, immigrants from England, who had moved to Saxeville, Waushara, Wisconsin very soon before Mary was born. Charles and Mary were married in Saxeville, Waushara, Wisconin on January 1, 1876.

The couple moved soon after marriage to Grant and West Union, Norton County, Kansas, and later by 1885 to Stevens Creek Precinct, Lancaster, Nebraska. Later, by 1900 they moved to Elcho, Langlade County, Wisconsin. They obtained property in the area around the Post Lakes.

The couple had 12 children, all of whom grew into adulthood, except the last two who died as infants in 1899 and 1900. Mary died after giving birth to the last infant in 1900 at the age of 42. At the time she died, her oldest daughter was 24, but many of her children were still very young, which left it to the older siblings to help with child rearing. Charles did not remarry.

Children:

Carrie Alice 1876, married Sidney E Hammond, lived in Freedom, Outagamie, Wisconsin, and Elcho, Langlade, Wisconsin, later moved to Nara Visa, Quay, New Mexico, thirteen children.

Nellie May 1878, married William Kibler, one child.
