Betty was born January 14, 1933, in Eufaula, OK to Jay and Alma (Sparks) Campbell. She attended Boynton public schools graduating in 1950. Betty married Ernest Cowles on May 7, 1949. She later married Jim Smart on March 21, 1959. In her life Betty lived several places including California and Hawaii. In 1976 she founded Smart Bonding Company in Muskogee. Betty had a great mind for business and serving all her clients. She also possessed a willingness to speak her mind and tell it like it is in no uncertain terms. She enjoyed entertaining and having her annual Christmas parties in earlier years and spending time with her family. Betty was a member of the Cherokee Nation and a loving mother, sister, granny and friend. She was one of a kind and will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Jay and Alma Campbell and special grandson, John Samuel "Sammy" Smart. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 8, 2011 at Timothy Baptist Church in Muskogee, OK, with David Howell officiating. Serving as pallbearers are Charles Pearson, Jeff Sanders, Luke Cowles, Eric Cowles, Trey Cowles, and Jay Cowles. Honorary pallbearers are Randy Trickey and Richard Coffin. Interment will follow at Council Hill Cemetery, Council Hill, OK. Funeral service arrangements are under the direction of Foster-Petering Funeral Home.
