Henry is a son of Dr. Nicholas Meriwether (1821–1878) and Miss. Emily Collier (1825–1905). On 14 Dec 1881 he married Miss Sophie D'Vanne Lake, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. (Sophia Blocker) John E. Lake, in Edgefield, South Carolina. Sophia and her mother died in Jul 1883; her father in Jan 1884 and Henry in 1893. It is not believed that Henry and Sophie had children. No further information on the family.

Meriwether-Lake.

On the morning of the 14th instant, old Edgefield celebrated another of the royal weddings, for which that hospitable community is noted. At the residence of Dr. John Lake a throng of guests were assembled to witness the ceremony, at which the Rev. J. P. Mealing officiated, and Miss Sophie D'Vanne Lake, the youngest daughter of Dr. Lake, and one of the most attractive young ladies of Edgefield, was married lo Mr. Henry Meriwether one of the staunch and popular young men of the county. The young couple will reside in Edgefield surrounded by friends and blessed with the congratulation and best wishes of all who know them. — Augusta Evening News.

CLARK'S HILL, S. C. June 19.—Mr. Henry Meriwether, a prominent citizen of Edgefield county, died last night at this place of heart disease. Mr. Meriwether was an elder brother of Collier Meriwether, who has for sometime been professor of English in the University of Japan, at Takio (sic).The family is a prominent one and has distinguished connections all over the State.
