Rebecca B. Cummings Rester was the daughter of Elizabeth and John Cummungs. Rebecca married William Rester of Union Parish Louisiana on 24 August 1854. Rebecca's brother in law, Charles Allen Combs, was the justice of the peace preciding over the ceremony.

William and Rebecca moved with Charles and Caroline Combs and other Resters to Alexandria Virginia where they resided until the civil war. William Rester is not found in the records after 1860 and since their youngest known child was born in 1862 it is assumed he died as a result of the civil war sometime after 1862. He may have joined a Louisiana or Arkansas regiment however, he has not been found in any of the records thus far.

Rebecca and William had three known children:
. Elizabeth Rester born in Louisiana in about 1858. Eliza married Jessie Lowery in 1878 and died in 1945.
. Caroline Rester born in Louisiana about 1860 and died before 1870.
. Mary Francis Rester was born about 1862 in Union County Arkansas. According to family records Mary Francis married a Cates and had two children, Georgie and Jim Cates. Mary Francis died on 20 April 1904

After the outbreak of the civil war, Rebecca lived with her mother, siblings and children in Jackson, Union County, Arkansas until she died in 1868.
