Audie "Dink" was born to Archibald and Lulu Viola Prude Van Winkle, an early New Mexico pioneering family. He had four sisters and three brothers. Dink married Georgie Amberson. They were married for 50 years and had a son and daughter.
Dink worked in the early day construction, helping to build Bear Canyon Dam and various Grant County roads. He was a master mechanic for the town of Silver City, New Mexico and also worked for the U.S. Forest Service. Later, he took over the management of the Diamond Bar Ranch until he went to the YZ Ranch in Meeker, Colorado. When retiring, they moved to Arizona and later moving to Truth or Consequences. He was a member of the LDS Church & a member of the Masonic Lodge, Tyrone, New Mexico.
