OBITUARY

Herman Fritz Antholz, second child and oldest son of Henry Frederick Antholz and Elenore Margarethe Schmidt Antholz, was born on his father's farm at Elk Creek, Nebraska, on February 7, 1881. He was a man of the soil, a farmer all of his life. He grew up on his father's farm, helping in all the chores and tasks of everyday life on the farm.

On February 14, 1904, he came to Atwood, Kansas, where he worked on the John and Herman Focke farms. A few years later he purchased a farm north of Atwood.

On May 6, 1913, he was united in marriage to Eva Agnes Reeh, at the church of the Immaculate Conception north of Beardsley. A few weeks before his marriage he joined the Catholic Church. He was a loyal Catholic the rest of his life.

In the spring of 1920 Mr. and Mrs. Antholz sold their farm north of Atwood and purchased one west of McDonald. In September of that year they moved to their home, where they lived until 1952 when they moved to a new home about 1 1/2 miles east of their home where he lived until his death.

Mr. Antholz was a man of rare qualities. He was ever ready to help others in their time of need. Many are the acts of kindness and the good deeds that he will be remembered for.

In the last few years of his life he found particular enjoyment in his four grandchildren.

Mr. Antholz had been in failing health the past fourteen months. All the skill of the medical world was of no avail. After having received the last sacraments, he passed away peacefully and quietly at 10:40 Sunday evening, February 10, 1957, at the age of 76 years and 3 days.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Eva; one son, Carl; and daughter-in-law, Rita; two grandsons, Herman and Michael; two granddaughters, Cecelia and Kathleen; one sister, Louise Huffman of Alburquerque, N. Mexico; four brothers, Henry of Montrose, Colorado, William and Adolph of McDonald, and George of Burlington, Colorado. Also a host of other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m. at St. Josephs Catholic Church at Bird City, with a Solemn Requiem Mass. Services were conducted by Rev. Cassimir Debef O.F.M. Cap. (Celebrant), Rev. Felician Brookman O.F.M. Cap. (Deacon), Rev. Mark Linnenberger O.F.M. Cap. (Subdeacon), and Rev. Jordan Hammell O.F.M. Cap. (Master of Ceremonies). The Mass was sung by the Sacred Heart Choir, Atwood, with Mrs. Mary Meara at the organ.

To meet in Heaven! How sweet the thought
When life's short years are past,
No more to weep, no more to part,
To meet in Heaven at last.
To meet in Heaven! O blessed thought
All care, all suffering o'er,
Meet in the mansions of the Bles't
And love forevermore.
To meet in Heaven around the throne
Of Him who died to save,
Be this our hope, our anxious care,
To meet beyond the grave.

CARD OF THANKS
We wish to express our sincerest gratitude to all who helped us during the long illness and passing of our beloved husband, father, and brother. Also for the many spiritual bouquets and contributions to the Cancer, Heart and Polio foundations in memory of Mr. Antholz. God bless all of you.--The family of the late Herman Fritz Antholz.
