Aaron Welborn Mashburn was born in Georgia to Elisha J. and Sarah Ann (Welborn) Mashburn. He enlisted in Company E, 7th Georgia Infantry and was a prisoner of war. After the service Aaron returned to Georgia and married Miss Martha Colley of Habersham County, Georgia on 7 March 1867. They had five children, all born in Georgia.

In the 1880 census Aaron was a building contractor in Atlanta. They moved to Mississippi about 1890. He was a coal dealer while living in MS. He and his wife are buried in the Magnolia Cemetery, Meridian, Lauderdale Co., MS.
