Ruth Mary Marion, passed away on Friday, August 8, 2003 in Platte City, Missouri. Ruth Mary Macklin was born to DeWalt and Mary Catharine Macklin on January 8, 1905 in Ashville, Ohio. She attended grade school in Tarlton, Ohio, and graduated from high school in Circleville, Ohio. She graduated from Ohio University in 1927 with a degree in Music Education. She was a charter member of Salt Creek Grange and a member of Eastern Star. Ruth Mary married Alonzo W. Marion in Tarlton, Ohio on May 11, 1929. Mrs. Marion taught music and history at Salt Creek School in Pickaway County, Ohio. She later lived in Celina, Ohio, Rockford, Ohio, and Groveport, Ohio, while Mr. Marion served as the Director of Natural Resources for the state of Ohio. In later years Mrs. Marion served as a Recreation Leader at MacDowell Senior Citizens Center in Columbus, Ohio. In 1976, Mrs. Marion retired and traveled extensively before moving to Platte City, Missouri where her daughter's family resides. Mrs. Marion is a member of the Groveport Presbyterian Church and has been active in the 1st Presbyterian Church of Leavenworth where she assisted the annual language school for the children of allied officers attending the Ft. Leavenworth Command and General Staff College. Mrs. Marion enjoyed annual trips to Ohio to meet with old friends and remaining classmates, and continued to make regular trips to Alaska and Kansas to visit grand children and great-grand children. Mrs. Marion is survived by her daughter, Jane Miller, of Platte City, MO; grandsons, Marion Miller of Kansas City, MO, Dr. David Miller of Juneau, AK, and Dr. Daniel Miller of Hastings, NE; and great-grandchildren, Jessica, Jacob, Grace, Anna, Ethan, and Noah Miller. A memorial service for Mrs. Marion will be held at the Groveport Presbyterian Church on Saturday, August 16th, at 10 a.m. Visitation will be one hour prior at the church. Internment will be at Reber Hill Cemetery in Circleville, following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution to the Groveport Presbyterian Church or Heifer Project International. We will miss her love, wisdom, and companionship.
