"Mrs. Akana"
"A memorial service for Karen Akana, 62, of Lampasas will be May 28, 2011, at Broad Street Church of Christ.
The body was cremated, and the remains will be buried at Kempner Cemetery at a later date.
Mrs. Akana died May 22 at Rollins Brook Community Hospital.
She was born Feb. 19, 1949, in Lampasas, the daughter of Johnny and Susie A. Taylor Bartts.
Mrs. Akana was a nurse's aide for many years and a homemaker.
She was married to James S. Akana, and they had lived in California, Alaska, Germany and Oklahoma while he served in the military.
Mrs. Akana was a member of Broad Street Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband of Lampasas; two sons, James D. Akana and John A. Akana, both of Lampasas; one daughter, Deborah L. Akana of Copperas Cove; two brothers, Robert Bartts of Lake Dallas, and Charles Haskel Bartts of Ardmore, Okla.; five grandchildren, Kristen Byrd Jones, Mallory Fielding, James E. Akana, Anthony W. Akana and Brianna Akana; and two great-grandchildren, Kasey Jones and Autumn Jones.
She was preceded in death by her parents; by a sister, Mildred; and a brother, Darrell."
