The family of Mr. Buckholt of Madison township, has recently been sorely afflicted by the terrible scourge, diphtheria. A few weeks ago two of his daughters were taken with the disease but recovered. Last week two of his little boys were taken with it and both died within a few days. It is reported that there was a good many neighbors present on the day of the funeral of the last child. The disease is very infectious and, all doctors agree that the disease may be carried on clothing from a sick room or house infected to other homes. If this disease should spread through this county by reason of such gathering the authorities of Madison township would hardly stand blameless. The state board of health and the statutes of Iaw a forbid such gatherings in the interest of humanity, and these rules and laws should be
enforced. Since writing the above we have been informed that the quarantine at Mr. Buckholt's has been observed strictly, and no person visited the interior of the house excepting the doctor in charge. Those who attended the funeral of the child remained in the road, members of the family bringing on the little casket and placing It near the highway for removal.
