GUNNISON, UT - Alvina Margaret Andersen Pierce, 95, of Gunnison, UT, passed away May 17, 2002 in Gunnison, UT. She was born Sept. 6, 1906 in Levan, UT to Hans Christian and Mary Jensen Andersen. She married Ernest Roland Pierce, Dec. 27, 1926 in Levan, Utah and the marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple.

He preceded her in death on March 1, 1973. Alvina was an active member of the LDS Church serving in many capacities. She was a member of the DUP, the Gunnison Valley Senior Citizens and a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary, recently being honored for 64 years. She enjoyed quilting and crocheting, and was an avid Jazz fan. She is known in Gunnison as the "Jazz Lady".

She is survived by children, Roland A. (Charlene) Pierce of SLC, Ernest (Dorothy) Pierce of Sandy, Mary Alice (Merle) Gomoll of Keizer, OR; nine grandchildren; seven great-grand-children; seven great-great-grand-children; sister-in-law, Norma Andersen of Levan.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, John O. Pierce; brothers: Andrew, James, Orlando, John, Nils Andersen; sisters, Carrie Wankier and Marie Wood. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2002 at 1 p.m. in the Gunnison LDS Stake Center, where friends may call on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Gunnison City Cemetery. Funeral Directors, Magleby-Jensen Mortuary, Salina and Gunnison.
