Pete was born in Montrose Mississippi to Grover and Florence Smith Blackwell. He attended school in Mississippi. He joined the U.S.Army where he served as a Corporal during the second world war. He was stationed in the pacific theater. After his honorable discharge in 1944 he was employed as a lumber grader for the Western Wood Products Association. He married Ruth Vick January 10, 1943 in McNary, Arizona. They were parents of Marie Theresa Blackwell(Smotherman) and Jerry Blackwell. Pete was a member of Forbston Masonic Lodge #50, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 196. He and his wife Ruth "Jo" are at rest in Memorial Park
