Rudy was born on January 18, 1926, in Harrison, Wis., the son of Adrian and Marie (Van den Sanden) Amelse. He attended St. Patrick’s School in Eau Claire. He married Betty Hedrington on September 9, 1952, at Holy Ghost Church, Chippewa Falls and was a long-time resident of Chippewa Falls. Rudy worked many years as a carpenter for Hoeppner-Bartlett Construction where he was known for his skill and work ethic.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Goldsmith Council 974 and 4th Degree member of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen Assembly and also Holy Ghost Church.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; his daughters, Pat (Stephen) Ellenson, Teresa (Paul) Wenaas and Mary Beth (Steven) Pfeifer; his sons, Ted (Sherry), Gerald (Mary), David, Mark (Kim) and James (Paula); his sisters, Jane Amelse, Dorothy Yeager and Mary Ann Speckien; his brothers, Casey, John, Richard, Lawrence and Peter; He is also survived by numerous grandchildren whom he dearly loved.
He was preceded in death by his children, Kathryn and Michael; his parents; his sister, Elizabeth Lewis; and brothers, Tony, Edward and Gerald.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, August 8, at Holy Ghost Church, Chippewa Falls. Rev. Edmund Doerre will be celebrant of the funeral Mass. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Chippewa Falls.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 7, and until 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Horan Funeral Home, Chippewa Falls. There will be a Christian vigil service at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Rudy’s life revolved around his love for his family and his faith in God. He was a longtime member and Eucharistic Minister of Holy Ghost Church in Chippewa Falls. He was known for leading many family construction projects and always doing the job the right way. He was loved and will truly be missed.
