COLUMBIA, S.C. — Dorothy L. Marchik, 96, formerly of Davenport, passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2011, in Columbia, South Carolina. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, October 3, 2011, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Davenport. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, October 2, 2011, at the Runge Mortuary, with a rosary to be recited at 3 p.m. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. John Neuman Catholic Church, 100 Polo Road, Columbia, SC 29223.
Mrs. Marchik was born June 1, 1915, in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of George and Ella (Reith) Neibert. She was united in marriage to Edward P. Marchik in October 1939. He preceded her in death on October 28, 1985.
She was formerly employed by Service Ice and Coal and later by Sudlow Junior High for 26 years, and was a homemaker.
Her memberships included the Post Office Ladies Auxiliary and AARP. She served as Secretary of NARFE, was active in CASI, and was formerly a member of St. Paul the Apostle and Holy Family Catholic Churches. She enjoyed square dancing, sewing, traveling and reading stories to her children and grandchildren.
She lived in Davenport of 86 years, then moved to her daughter's home in South Carolina.
Survivors include her children, James (Diane) Marchik, Thomas (Penny) Marchik, Mary (Robert) Brown, and Ruth Schreechfield; grandchildren, Daniel (Julie)Marchik, Jason (Katie) Marchik, Michael (Yvonne) Marchik, David Marchik, Marianne (Ryan) Rivera, Sheri (Fred) Schwarz, Dana (Dan) Ash, Larry E. Kelly, Beth (Tom) Haugeberg, and Rebecca (Chad) Langford Kristen Reiss, and Aaron Reiss; and 18 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Daniel, in infancy, daughter-in-law, Janell, three brothers and three sisters.

Mrs. Marchik passed away on September 24, 2011, at the age of 96. She is survived by her children, James and his wife Diane Marchik, Thomas and his wife Penny Marchik, Mary and Robert Brown and Ruth Schreechfield.

She was preceded in death by her husband, son, Daniel, two brothers and two sisters. Dorothy lived in Davenport, Iowa, for 86 years before moving to South Carolina.
