Los Angeles, June 14.—(AP)—Dr. Josiah Evans Cowles, 78, outstanding figure in medical work and in the civic and religious life of Los Angeles, died of heart disease today. Dr. Cowles was born in Hamptonville, N. C., received his early education at Lenoir, N. C., and was graduated from the University of Maryland at Baltimore. His wife survives.
