U.S. Congressman. After graduating from Cornell University, in 1887, he taught at St. Paul's School New Hampshire, moved to New York, in 1888 and taught at St. Paul's School in Salem. He also engaged in agricultural pursuits and the breeding of harness racing horses. Entering politics, he was a member of the New York State Assembly, (1904-05, 08-12). In 1913, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-third Congress and to the next ten succeeding Congresses, serving until his death.
