Age 85, one of three sons of Mary Elizabeth and William Earl Goodill. He graduated from St. Patrick's grade school. He was also a graduate of Cathedral Prep where he was captain of the football team and lettered in three sports. At the age of 22 he joined the Army Air Corp. He was called to duty in WWII as a member of the 365th Army Air Force Squadron of the 305th Bomb Group (H), stationed in Chelveston, England. He was a B17 bomber pilot of a plane that he called the Irish Mail, for his father an Assistant Postmaster in Erie. He flew 35 missions over Germany. In later years he enjoyed connecting with the men who served with him, attending many reunions.

He recieved his BSEE from Carnegie Mellon University were he was a member of the Phi Kappa Alpha fraternity and an MBA from Case Western Reserve in Cleveland. He worked for Lord Corporation for 37 years before retiring as an Operations Manager. Married at age 32, together with his wife, Joan, he raised a family of 11 children in Erie. He was a man of faith and founding member of St. Luke parish and school where he was active as an usher. He was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.

Jack was an avid sailor. He enjoyed many sailing trips on the Great Lakes with the family on their sloop, the Stella Maris. He was also a competitive racer on the Erie Yacht Club circuit. He was a Commander with the Power Squadron and a longtime member of the Erie Yacht Club.

He was preceded in death by his brothers William Earl Jr. and Msgr. Robert D. Goodill.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, the former Mary Joan Gibbons, 11 children, Mary Eileen (Meg) Erickson of Livermore, Calif.; Dr. John J. Goodill, Jr. of Wilmington, Del.; Lisa Engro of Erie; Colleen Roudebush of Corona Del Mar, CA; Robert Goodill of Washington, DC; William Goodill of Bay Village, Ohio; Cynthia Makarewicz of Clifton Park, N.Y.; Patricia Goodill of Lakewood, Ohio; Julie Flatley of Erie; James Goodill of Newport News, Va.; Michael Goodill of Rocky River, Ohio; 26 grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

His was a long full life, well lived.
