In the presence of family and friends, Richard Evans, Sr., 75, passed away on September 27, 2011, while in care at UT Medical Center after an unexpected illness.

Born January 17, 1936 in Middlesboro, Kentucky, Richard Evans, Sr. was the son of Robert and Gertrude Evans. A life-long Middlesboro native, Richard joined the U.S. Army in 1955 at the age of 19. After proudly serving his country, he returned home to his wife, Martha Evans, with whom he enjoyed 55 years of marriage. In 1959, Richard and Martha Evans founded one of Middlesboro's well known businesses, Evans Body Shop, Inc. Richard was a masterful auto body repair man and painter, as he and his wife Martha remained active within the business until his untimely departure.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Gertrude Lynch Evans; and beloved in-laws, Ted and Ina Lee Yeary.

He is survived by his loving wife, Martha Evans; children, Yvonne (Shawn) Collins, Regina (Anthony) Black, and Richard (Tracy) Evans, Jr.; grandchildren, Rebekah (Sam) Browning, TJ (Amber) Black, Michael (Kiplyn) Collins, Lindsey (Stephen) Hunter, Megan (Jerry) Hensley, and Alex (Brandon) Dover; great-grandchildren, Austin & Peyton Browning, Elizabeth, Mason, Dalton, & Kolton Black, Paxton & Preston Dover, and Ramey Hunter; sister, Bobbie Estep; brother, Paul Rose; sister-in-law, Faye Wilder; as well as a host of nephews and a niece. Richard also had many special friends.

Visitation and a memorial service will be held Thursday, September 29, 2011, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Creech Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Dennis Wilder and Rev. David King will be presiding.

Mr. Evans was cremated at his request.

Creech Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
