William Woodrow Davis, 93, lifelong resident of Greenville, went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 6, 2011, D-Day.

He loved God, Family and Country.

He was born November 13, 1917 in Charlotte, NC to the late George W. and Mamie Elizabeth Davis.

During his lifetime he owned and operated Delta Davis Trucking and earned an award from Mack Trucks for driving more than 2 million miles.

He was a veteran of World War II having served with the United State Army Air Corps. During his four years in the Aircorp, Mr. Davis won 9 medals for combat. Some of the medals he won were; American Defense Medal, American Theater Ribbon, APT Service Medal, Philippine Liberation, GO 23 USAFFE 5 Feb. 1945, World War II Victory Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge and GO 2129 FEAF 1945. He was a lifetime member of The Elks, The National Rifle Association and was a honorary citizen of Natchez, MS.

Surviving are his children, Candi Davis (Charles Moroney) of Natchez, MS, Lindsay Davis of Greenville and Terry Lipscomb of Columbia; one granddaughter, PFC Kate A. Baer of the 2072nd Military Police Company; four nieces; one nephew; his caregiver, Becky Williams; and his friend, Mike Santospago. In addition to his parents, Mr. Davis was predeceased by his sister, Christine MacMahon; and dear friend, Avanell Roe.

The funeral service with Military Honors will be held Friday, June 10, 2011 at Noon in Remembrance Chapel of Woodlawn Memorial Park with the Reverend Jimmy Robinson of White Oak Baptist Church officiating. Entombment will follow.

The family will be at the residence, 14 Shenandoah Drive.
