Lyman J Chase and Mary Shultz Chase arrived in the Rock Branch community with their young family around 1865, making the trip from Lucerne,Benton, Iowa by covered wagon. Upon arriving the first thing Mr. Chase did was to build a barn upon the newly acquired land, hauling the lumber from Sioux City. Upon completion of the barn the family lived in the haymow until the house was built some time later.
