SOUTHINGTON NEWS

Joseph Celella, 89, of 12 Vermont Ave., died at his home Friday morning following a short illness. Born in Italy, May 31, 1869, he was the son of the late Philip and Philomenia (Mongillo) Celella. He has been a resident of Southington for the the past 48 years. Mr. Celella attended St. Thomas' Church.

He leaves five daughters, Mrs. Mollie Galiette, with whom he made his home and Mrs. Marguerite Galiette, both of Southington; Mrs. Mary Molgano and Mrs. Madeline Santore, both of Stamford, and Miss Anne E. Celella of New York City; two sons, Carmen Celella of Plainville and Nicholas Celella of Van Nuys, Calif., a brother, Antonio Celella of Southington, and a brother and sister in Italy; 33 grandchildren and 52 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Monday at 8 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 North Main Street and at St. Thomas Church at 9 o'clock where a solemn requiem high mass will be celebrated. Burial will take place in St. Thomas Cemetery.

The Rev. Dawson D. Trenchard was main celebrant for the high mass with the assistance of the Rev. James F. Kelleher as deacon and the Rev. Arthur DuPont as subdeacon. Burial was in St. Thomas Cemetery with committal prayers offered by Father DuPont. The bearers were: Gino, Robert, Anthony, Ralph and Peter Celella Jr., and Ralph Riccio Jr.
