~Nicholas Schaefer emigrated from Germany and arrived at Port of New York on 26 December 1854, this is the date recorded on his Declaration of Intent. Nicholas married 1. Susanna Nimsgern, daughter of Johann Nimsgern and Suzanne Grill, on 4 February 1869, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. Nicholas and Susanna were the parents of eleven children known, only three of the eleven children surviving to adulthood. Susanna died following the birth of her last child, Barbara, twin of Simon. Nicholas married 2. Margaretha Magdalena Stilling, daughter of Johann Gerhard Stilling and Maria Katharina Schmitt, on 6 December 1884 at St John the Baptist Catholic Church in Johnsburg, McHenry County, Illinois. Nicholas and Margaretha were the parents of six children known, Elisabeth b 25 Sep 1885 (Peter Adams), Anton Nicholas b 30 December 1886, Anna Margaretha b 16 Mar 1888 (John Wilhelm Adams), Katharina b 3 Aug 1889 (Henry Adams), Johann Peter b 14 Feb 1891 and Marie Gertrude b 12 Mar 1895 (Peter Joseph Myer) ~
