James H. Dawes was born at the Buzzard Ranch near Independence Rock southwest of Casper, Wyoming. The family moved east when he was a small boy and he grew to young manhood in Kansas and Nebraska.

On Jan. 29, 1924, he was united in marriage with Miss Alice Snyder at Holyoke, Colo. In 1931, the family moved to this community where he resided until his death.

Mr. Dawes had been a heavy road equipment operator for a number of years and was employed by Knisely-Moore Construction Co. at the time of his death.

Surviving are his wife, Alice; his mother, Mrs. Clara Dawes of Douglas; two sons, Dewayne of Lander and Bob of Burbank, Wash.; four daughters, Mrs. Virginia Edwards of Cohagen, Mont., Mrs. Alta Jean Menard of Burbank, Wash.; Mrs. Mary Alice Murnion of Jordan, Mont.; and Mrs. Mickie Brannan of Douglas; 13 grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Mary Snyder of Twin Falls, Ida.; and two brothers, Hessie of Hay Center, Neb.; and Bill of Edgemont, S.D.
