He was a graduate of Antlers High School, Eastern Oklahoma A&M College and Oklahoma State University. During World War II, he served as a radiology technician at an Army Air Corps Hospital in San Angelo, Texas.
Much of his life was spent in Ada, Okla., where he was manager of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service. In 1999, he moved to Bella Vista, Ark., where he resided until his death. He was a member of the Bella Vista Baptist Church and, before his move, the First Baptist Church of Ada, Okla.
Bennett Sherrer was preceded in death by his parents, Robert L. Sherrer and Delanie Robison Sherrer of Snow, Okla.; as well as brothers, Leonard Sherrer of Snow, Okla., Lloyd Sherrer of Durant, Okla., A.L. Sherrer of Oregon and Laverne Sherrer of Oregon; and sisters, Audry Holland of Springdale, Ark., and Wilma Franks of Antlers, Okla. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Osborn Lowell Sherrer, who died as a newborn.
Bennett Sherrer is survived by his wife, Lucretia Sailors Sherrer of the home; and two children, a son, Joe Sherrer and wife, Liz, of Moore, Okla.; and a daughter, Susan Allen and husband, Geoff, of Omaha, Neb. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nephews and nieces, including the following, sister, Loretta Westbrook and husband, David, of Garland, Texas; brothers, Leon Sherrer of Durant, Okla., and William L. Sherrer and wife, Valda, of Mena, Ark.; grandchildren, Tim Allen and wife, Jen, of Fenton, Mo., and their children, Alexander and Gabriel, Andy Sherrer and wife, Megan, of Norman, Okla., and their children, Sheridan and Jackson, Josh Allen of Minneapolis, Minn., Jennifer
Agilar and husband, Tony, of Omaha, Neb., and their children, Trinity, Brianna and Gabrielle, and John Sherrer and wife, Joni, of Edmond, Okla., and their children, Samuel and Syndey.
A funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30, 2011, at the Bella Vista Baptist Church, 50 E. Lancashire Blvd., Bella Vista, Ark. Burial will be in the Bella Vista Cemetery.
