Sarah Malinda Adkins was a wonderful mother to 4 children. Her oldest was Leola Bell then Cletus Odell, Junior Cleo, and Nina Arlene. She was a very noble woman as early in her pregnancy with her last child it was discovered that she had a kidney ailment that untreated would no doubt be fatal. To save the life of her unborn child she declined treatment and after the baby came she was too advanced with the sickness to be treated. I am told it was a kidney ailment of some sort and she died an agonizing death about 1 year after the birth of Arlene. I am told that she suffered greatly with no pain medication available to her.

She was marrid to Oscar Dowe Reeder who made no excuses for his lifestyle at the time. He was a practicing alcoholic and between drinking and making a poor living for his family he had no time to bond with his children as we today are aware is so very important. Arlene was too little to remember her passing but the other 3 children no doubt remembered it well.

I am told that she cut Oscar no slack about his drinking and when he would come home clinging to the porch post and calling for her to help him she would say "Oscar, don't you want some more whiskey?'
