Dexter Edward Leaverton Jr., 85, of Burlington died at 1:15 p.m. Monday, September 26, 2011, at Manor Care in Davenport.

Born February 23, 1926, in Gulfport, Illinois, he was the son of Dexter Edward Sr. and Sarah Elizabeth McCandless Leaverton.

In 1948, he married Grace Evelyn Knopp. They later divorced. He married Mary Lou Kidder. They also divorced.

Mr. Leaverton was a World War II Navy veteran. He was a laborer at both J.I. Case Co. and Klein Manufacturing. He enjoyed shopping and socializing at Farney's and Steve's Place.

Survivors include one daughter, Gloria Linden of West Burlington; three grandchildren, Jeffrey Linden and Tracy Linden, both of Burlington and Jennifer Linden of Cedar Rapids; three great-grandchildren, Shane Burtlow, Samantha Teel and Kenyon Boyd, all of Burlington; and one sister, Mary Ellen Hitchcock of Andalusia, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sons, Gary Leaverton, Dexter Leaverton Jr. and Steven Leaverton; and three sisters, Laura Myers, Vera Graham and Myrtle Booten.

The graveside memorial funeral service and inurnment for Mr. Leaverton will be 2 p.m. Friday, September 30th, in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The Rev. David Mixon will officiate. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites.
