"Alexander G. Ironside
Alexander G. Ironside, 85, of 1617 Hamilton St., died at 1 p.m. Sunday in Memorial Hospital after a short illness. he was the owner of the Ironside Monument Works, now thee South Bend Monument Works, for more than 30 years, retiring in 1953. He was born Oct. 5, 1881, in Peterhead, Scotland, and lived here since 1924, coming from Hastings, Mich. On June 12, 1918, he married Anna E. Kopscay, who died in 1943. On March 25, 1945, in Joliet, he married Merle G. Mohler, who survives, along with a brother, Fred Ironside, of Long Island, N.Y.; and a sister, Mrs. Magdaline Robertson of Aberdeen, Scotland. Friends may call from 4 p.m. today until noon Tuesday in the Welsheimer Funeral home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the First Presbyterian Church, Rev. Daniel W. Fowler, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. He was a member oft he men's class of the church, and was a former head usher there. He was also a member of Aberdeen Lodge 130, F & AM, of Scotland; the Scottish Rite, Valley of South Bend; Hastings Chapter, 63, R.A.M.; Hastings Chapter 49, R. S. M.; the Kiwanis Club of South bend; the Chamber of Commerce here and the Knife and Fork Club."
