Thursday afternoon a serious and possibly fatal accident happened to Mr. Austin Avery, a resident of Syracuse, and for a number of years President of the Onondaga Milk Association. About 2 o'clock Mr. Avery, who is nearly seventy years of age, started, with a splendid young horse and caller, for Liverpool, where he intended to pay taxes on property owned by him in that town. When entering Hickory street on Townsend street, a boy coasting came down the hill at a fearful rate of speed. The boy seeing that a collision was inevitable, threw himself off the sled, which continued its progress and shot directly under the legs of the animal driven by Mr. Avery. The horse became frightened and plunged to the side, causing the cutter to tip over and Mr. Avery was thrown to the ground with great force. He struck on the side of his head and was rendered ---. Several persons who witnessed the accident hastened to Mr. Avery's assistance. No external injuries were noticed except a slight cut on the left side of the head. Blood streamed from the left ear and the injured man vomited large quantities of blood. It was feared he was injured internally.
