Rev. Kingsley Dies; Served Akron, Wilson
AKRON — The Rev. Walter
L. Kingsley of Penfield, formerly
of Akron, where he was
pastor of the United Methodist
Church until recently, died
unexpectedly of a heart attack,
Wednesday at Banff, Alberta,
Canada.
He and his wife were guests
of friends from the state of
Alabama who were taking them
on a leisurely vacation trip to
Alaska.
Mr. Kingsley was born in
Victor, Aug. 20, 1916, the son
of Alice Kingsley of Victor, and
the late Walter R. Kingsley.
He was a graduate of the
University of Rochester and
Boston University of Theology.
In 1942, he received his first
assignment to the ministry at
Bergen-Churchville Methodist
Church.
From 1947 to I960 he served
at Wilson Methodist Church,
and then was assigned to Akron
where he was pastor from 1960
until his transfer to Penfield in
June this year.
While serving in Wilson and
Akron, he organized the Inter-
Church Fellowship Group.
He was also a member of the
Conference Committee of World
Service and Finance, and the
board of the Buffalo Council
of Churches. As an active
member of Kiwanis Club, he
served on the board of directors.
He is survived by his widow,
Mrs. Mildred B. (Boughton)
Kingsley of Penfield; three
sons, David B. of Victor, S. Sgt.
Richard W. of Wiesbaden,
Germany, and Philip B. of
Rochester; two brothers, Ray
A. and Ralph W., both of
Rochester; five sisters, Mrs.
Maurice Keefe, Mrs. Urlyn Broughton,
Mrs. Stuart Pierce,
and Mrs. Norman Oehlbeck,
all of Rochester, and Miss
Marion E. Kingsley, a
missionary in Seoul, Korea; and
four grandchildren.
Friends my call today at the Ross Funeral Home, 22 John St., Akron, where the family will be present from 2 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m.
Services will be at 4 p.m.

the Syracuse area, United

∼Rev. Walter Lucius Kingsley was the son of Walter Ray and Alice Adeline (Doolittle) Kingsley. He was the 1st husband of Mildred "Milly" (Boughton) Kingsley Garling. Mildred died March 15, 2014. Rev. Kingsley was a minister in the Methodist Episcopal Church: L 1937 Genesee (now Western New York) Conference 1943 F 1945.
