At some point my uncle was told (when and by whom he doesn't recall) that my birthmother and he were the survivors of four pregnancies. It is unknown if these children were miscarriages, stillbirths, or if they died as infants.

One of these children was definitely female. My uncle recalls one day being out with his Aunt Alice, his mother's sister. They were driving by Leverington Cemetery when she said to him "That's where your sister is buried". That's how he learned of his one sister who didn't make it.

But there was another sibling. My uncle would not yet have been age two, but he recalled picking up his mother in Pottstown between about 1944 and 1948. I had sort of let this go, thinking that since this child did not appear on the state death index, I would never find any documentation.

Do not doubt the power of small town newspapers. Today I found the snippet attached to this memorial from the Pottstown Mercury, showing my grandma was discharged from the hospital's maternity section on July 20, 1946. Today is July 21, 2014, almost exactly 68 years later to the day.

An online memorial for the female child referenced by Aunt Alice has been made and placed in Leverington Cemetery on FindAGrave.
