Resident of Kelso for 40 Years Well Known
Widow of Civil War Veteran Active in Many Enterprises for Local Betterman.

Kelso, Wash., July 9 - (Special.) - Funeral services for Mrs Georgiana K Knapp, widow of the later Peter J Knapp well known lumberman and mill operator, were held here Tuesday from the Presbyterian church, with concluding services at the Portland crematorium.

Mrs Knapp known for her philanthropic and church work, was a resident of Kelso for more than 40 years, having been one of the organizer, a past president and active worker in the General Saunders Women's Relief corps of the Grand Army of the Republic, No. 50 of the department of Washington and Alaska.

Mrs Knapp was born in Adolphus, province of Ontario, Canada, April 17, 1854, and four years later moved with her parents to Port Huron, Mich. and later moving to White Hall, Mich., where in 1870 she married Peter J Knapp a veteran of the civil war who had been imprisoned in the notorious Anderson and Libby prisons after having been captured by the confederates near the close of the war.

After spending several years in Michigan and Kansas, Mr and Mrs Knapp moved to Kelso, where Mr Knapp engaged in lumber and milling operations for more than 30 years. He died about six years ago. In addition to her other activities Mrs Knapp took interest in civic affairs, at the time of her death was official registrar for Cowlitz county. A daughter, Mrs Mae J Elliott of Portland, survives.

DEATH COMES TO MRS. KNAPP SUNDAY NIGHT

Pioneer who Had Resided In Kelso For 40 Years Sucumbs To Paralytic Stroke Last Night.

Mrs. Georgiana Knapp, a resident of Kelso for 40 years, passed away at her home at 401 Academy street in Kelso about 9:40 o'clock last night following a stroke of paralysis which occured on Saturday. Mrs. Knapp was 76 years of age.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Presbyterian church in Kelso. Concluding services and interment will be in the Portland Crematorium.

Mrs. Knapp was born in Canada in 1854. She was married to Peter Knapp at Whitehall, Mich. on November 24, 1870. The couple came to Kelso in 1890 and Mr. Knapp operated several sawmills. He retired 18 years ago and died in 1924. He was a Civil War veteran. Conciderable Kelso real estate is included in the Knapp estate.

A daughter, Mrs. Mary J. Elliott of Portland, is the only immediate survivor. A nephew, Edwin Moll, lives in Portland, and a sister, Mrs. Deborah Hensey, lives in Lakota, N. D.

Active pallbearers at the services will be Dr. A. F. Davis, R. A. Davis, Al Leichhardt, H. C. Dunham, Elden Dunham and Russell Carothers.

Honorary pallbearers will be B. F. Colvin, R. N. West, George Portland, Thomas Mc Dermott, Robert Jolley, C. P. Stayton, John Spangler and Tom Shannon. The latter two are Civil War veterans.

The remains will lie in state at the family home this afternoon and evening and until 1 o'clock tomorrow. The Nat Smith funeral home is in charge of burial.
