Vera came to Oklahoma City from Marysville, Kansas in 1925 with her cousin Lucille Townsend to find a job and to begin a new life. She secured a position with an investment firm in Oklahoma City, and met her future husband, William Martin Lawrence, at the OK State Fair in 1925. Although she had gone to the fair with another beau, she left with the man with the car--Martin Lawrence. They were subsequently married in November of 1925. Mimi was an excellent mahjong and bridge player and was involved in many civic organizations. She was also a member of the Whitehall Club, Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club, and the Queensberry Club. Mimi enjoyed her life to its fullest without any regrets.
