Addie Mae Baptist, 75, of the 1700 block of Martin Ave., passed away May 17, 2011.

She was born July 8, 1935 to the late Hattie B. Wood and James T. Nicholson in Littleton, N.C. She was predeceased by her husband, Leroy Baptist and her former husband, Raymond Slater.

Addie was a member of Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church, Red Hat Society and the West Munden Civic League.

She is survived by three daughters, Harriette Slater Cotten (Samuel), Linda Baptist and Denise Christian; one son, Anthony Ray Slater; son-in-law, Robert Christian; five sisters, Eva Franklin, Mildred Lynch, Reata Manning, Nellie Clanton and Nettie Banks; sister-in-law, Greer Fonville; brother-in-law, Randolph Slater; five grandchildren, Samuel L. Cotten Jr., Dominique C. Cotten, Dawn Baptist, Kelvin Baptist (Constance) and Anmity Slater; two great-grandchildren, Jordyn Cotten and Ashley Baptist; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church, 2201 Wingfield Ave., Chesapeake. Entombment will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. The family will receive friends 7 to 8 p.m. Friday in Metropolitan Funeral Service, Berkley Ave. Chapel.
