Ida Emily Masssey Aberts, 87, of West Chester, died on Sunday, May 4, 2003, at Pocopson Home.
She was the wife of the late James Aberts, with whom she shared 44 years of marriage.
Born on Oct. 19, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Hugh and Esther Mattson Massey.
She attended Unionville schools.
She was a licensed practical nurse, working primarily private duty, until her retirement in 1984.
A resident of East Whiteland (township) for more than 60 years, she was a member of Grove United Methodist Church.
She served as president of the East Whiteland Fire Company Auxiliary and was an active life member of the West Chester Senior Center.
She delivered Meals on Wheels for more than 10 years.
She was a Safe Harbor of West Chester volunteer and a member of Malvern Needlework Guild.
She is survived by a son, James Aberts Jr. and his wife, Joan, of West Chester, three sisters, Esther Stump of Coatesville, Margaret Moran of Christiana and Madalyn Massey of Honey Brook; a granddaughter, Sandy Crellin of Lancaster, and many cousins.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter Massey and Hugh Massey, Jr.; and two sisters, Ruth Lonas and Gladys Reber.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7, at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Ave., Downingtown, where family and friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m.
Interment will be at Philadelphia Memorial Park, Frazer.
