Samuel was the son of David Morrison and Ann Jane Guthrie. He married Mary Johnston on September 26, 1876, in Brooklyn, New York.

OBITUARY:
The death of Samuel Gutherie Morrison occurred at his home, 19 Greenwood Avenue, Saturday afternoon, following a ten day's illness with pneumonia., Mr. Morrison was one of the oldest business men of Bethel and a man held in the highest esteem by its townspeople. He was born in New York and his early life was spent in that city and Brooklyn.
Mr. Morrison came to Bethel in 1886 and entered into partnership with his brother-in-law, the late William Johnson, who was operating a feed and grain business, in which he was engaged up to the time of his death. After the death of Mr. Johnson, a son-in-law of Mr. Morrison's was admitted into the firm, and the business has since been conducted under the firm name of Johnson & Morrison.

While living in Brooklyn, Mr. Morrison was a member of the Dutch Reform Church of that city and for many years served as its superintendent. While he had not transferred his church membrrship to a local church, he attended the Bethel Congregational Church, and was interested in its work.

Surviving members of the family are five children: Mrs. William Hawley, of New Canaan; Robert Morrison of Danbury; Garfield Morrison of Kent; Mrs. Arthur T. Dunham and Miss Hannah Morrison of
