Mary Ruth Auchampach, the daughter of Clyde and Ida (Adams) Merten, was born December 1, 1940 in Clear Lake. She attended the rural schools of Hancock County. On June 17, 1961 she was married to Ernest Auchampach. They lived in Clear Lake, Garner and Mason City. Ernest passed away in 1987. Mary then shared a home with her mother and took wonderful care of her until she passed away in 2000. She then continued to live in the Mason City area for a few years before moving to Maquoketa and in September of 2003, the Nora Springs Care Center. She enjoyed going on country drives, making color scrapbooks and boat trips on the Lady of the Lake in Clear Lake.

Mary is survived by her siblings, Raymond (Ruby) Merten of Benson, AZ, Betty Wells of Texas, Susan Wells (special friend, Don Cecil) of Rudd, Jack (Darlene) Merten of Clinton and Nancy Fry of Charles City; and many nieces and nephews.
