Carolyn Fotheringill was born in Black Diamond, Wash., to Ray William and Anna Smith on Nov. 11, 1913 and passed away after a brief illness on Nov. 15, 2005.
Carolyn was raised in Black Diamond, Carbonado and Seattle. She went to high school in Carbonado and in Seattle and attended the University of Washington.
She married Hugh Fotheringill in 1937 and they moved to Lakewood, Wash. She worked for many years as a bookkeeper for Redig Gas Company and Bolero Lanes in Lakewood.
Upon retirement, Carolyn and Hugh built a home on the beach outside of Oak Harbor where they spent many happy years entertaining friends and family. In the past few years she lived with her daughter and son-in-law in Kirkland.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband Hugh Fotheringill, brother William Smith and sister Kay Walseth.
She is survived by her son Michael H. Fotheringill (Holly), daughter Lynn Cuff (Richard); grandsons, Tyler Fotheringill (Jennifer) and Jeff Fotheringill (Teresa); granddaughters Kendall Hannon (Niall) and Regan Briggs; and great grand children Madison, Makenzie, Emma and Elle Fotheringill, Bailey and Brandon Fotheringill, and Patrick Michael Hannon.
Carolyn was a devoted mother and friend with a bright and indomitable spirit.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Carolyn's loving caregivers, Azra Grcic, Niloofar Kavousi, Josephine Lirio, Judy Milender and Tami Cordray.
A celebration of Carolyn's life will be held in the summer.
