He was born in La Crosse, on Jan. 7, 1926, to Wenzel and Mary (Spika) Banasik. He married Nora Lynch on Oct. 25, 1952, in St. Joseph the Workman Cathedral, La Crosse. Bunna was a graduate of Aquinas High School, class of 1944. After graduation, he joined the U.S. armed forces and was honorably discharged after serving our country in World War II. Bunna was a member of the Roy L. Vingers American Legion Post 52 and the Thomas Rooney VFW Post 1530, both of La Crosse. He was also a member of the Letter Carriers Union for more than 50 years.
Bunna helped create the first Aquinas Booster Club and followed Aquinas schools and Aquinas sports all of his life. Bunna had a special devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and prayed the rosary daily. Bunna loved watching all children become young adults, especially his grandchildren, Sarah and Michael.
He is survived by his wife, Nora of La Crosse; two daughters; two grandchildren; two sisters; and three brothers. Bunna is further survived by other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and his Aquinas family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Dorothy and Adeline Banasik, Alice Gray and Rita Bye; and two brothers, George and Ted Banasik.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 9, in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 130 Losey Blvd. S., La Crosse. The Rev. Robert Hundt officiated, with military burial rites by Thomas Rooney VFW Post 1530 to be held in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, La Crosse.
Memorials are preferred to Aquinas High School, The Greater La Crosse Area Boys & Girls Club and Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
