My great grandfather and his wife Maria Augusta De Medeiros left Ponta Delgada with their first born Mary Raposo Furtado in 1895 on the S.S. Braunfels. They arrived in Honolulu, then over to Hamakua to work on the sugar plantation. They had three more daughters Virginia, Matilda and Florinda. They then moved to Oahu (Waipahu area) and worked for the sugar plantation in Waipahu.
