She was born May 24, 1911, in Waterford Township, daughter of the late John H. and Nellie Smith Gorndt. She lived in Corry since the early 1940s.
She was an artist who painted china for more than 30 years. A charter member of the Pennsylvania Federation of China Painters, she also was a member of the Corry China Painters and Pennsylvania Porcelain Artists.
She served with the Missionary Society, Friendship Aid and attended Rehoboth classes at Corry's Evangelical United Methodist Church. She enjoyed crocheting and feeding and watching birds.
She was preceded in death by her husband, C. Vernon Welch, whom she married Oct. 3, 1931, and who died in 1985; two sisters, Edna G. Sherred and Louise Chapin; a brother, Elmer Gorndt; and a granddaughter, Christina Breene.
Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Nielsen and her husband, Carl, of French Creek, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Gregory and Sarah Breene, Kevin Bemis, Christopher and Brandy Nielsen and Tammy Lasher.
Burial will be at Pine Grove Cemetery.
