Rhinelander Daily News, Nov. 27, 1996. Leroy F. Surges, 80, of Manitowish Waters, died Mon. Nov. 25, 1996, at Howard Young Medical Center in Woodruff. He was born on June 1, 1916, in West Allis, to the late Henry and Millie Clausen Surges. In Milwaukee in 1940 Leroy married the former Isabelle Kubiak and she survives. He moved to Manitowish Waters from Milwaukee 30 years ago after serving 25 years on the Milwaukee Police Department and retiring as a detective. He was a member of the Manitowish Waters Lions Club and the Manitowish Waters Sportsmans Club. He served for some time as the Justice of Peace in Manitowish Waters.

Survivors besides his wife Isabelle include one daughter; one grandchild and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Millie, and his only sister, Anita.

Funeral services will be held today at 1 p.m. in the chapel of the Campbell Funeral Home. The Rev. Paul R. Engwall will officiate. Visitation will be today from 12 noon until the time of the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in the spring at Pinelawn Cemetery in Manitowish Waters. Campbell Funeral Home of Woodruff is in charge of the arrangements.
