Mathilda L. Delaney, 80, died Tuesday in Spencer

Funeral services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer. The Rev. Robert McClintock and the Rev. Miles Barrett will officiate

Casket bearers will be Bob Nelson, Dick Montgomery, Dr. Delbert Anliker, Louis Fell, John Galvin and John Lynch.

Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer and the Baumgarten Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements

Rosary services will be held today at the Baumgarten Funeral Home, Legion of Mary at 4 p.m. and Parish at 8 p.m.

The daughter of Frank and Anna (Galles) Recker, was born September 11, 1907 in Remsen. She graduated from Remsen High School and the Palmer School of Chiropractic in Davenport in 1928

She married Sheridan P. Delaney in Sioux City in 1930. They made their home in Spencer and Mrs. Delaney operated the Delaney Nursing Home for 35 years and the East Lawn Home for 17 years, retiring in 1977

In 1950, she and two other people organized the Iowa Nursing Home Association. Mrs. Delaney was a licensed nurse as well as a Nursing Home Administrator and was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and the Altar Society

After her retirement, she lived in and worked toward restoring the Higgins Mansion until it was recognized in the National Register

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, John; one sister, Therese

She is survived by one daughter, Mary Thompson of Spencer; two sons, James Delaney of Des Moines and John Delaney of Sioux Falls; three sisters, Caroline Dovia of Marcus, Florentine Kroah of Milford and Agnes Ament of Cherokee; six grandchildren; one great granddaughter.
