Mrs. Emma Brand died at her home in Lafayette, Friday, her death ending a long illness. She was born on Oakland Hill, Lafayette, in 1854, the daughter of Jacob and Caroline Bower. In 1879 she was married to Isaac Brand, and the couple lived on the Brand farm northwest of Dayton until 1920, when Mr. Brand passed away. Since that time she had lived in Lafayette, most of the time in the old Bower home. This little brick house that stood at the corner of Main and 16th streets, was one of Oakland Hill's landmarks. It gave way to a filling station a few years ago.

Mrs. Brand was a member of the Dayton Presbyterian church, and Pastor Steen, of that church, conducted the funeral service at the home Monday afternoon.

The deceased is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Frank Kulmer, of Peoria, Ill., and Mrs. J. E. Clapper, of Houston, Texas. Her only child, Mrs. Irene Work died a number of years ago.

Some of the older farmers no doubt remember the days when Jacob Bower made nearly all the wagons used in this section of the state. His shop was located on the site of Standard Oil station on Oakland Hill, or very near there.
