Obit from The Mt. Pleasant News, pg. 1, Mt. Pleasant, Iowa Monday June 18, 1928: "Mr. William Monroe Shannon, who died Friday, June 15, 1928 lived to be a very old man. He was born near the town of Rising Sun, Indiana, Feb. 22, 1831. After the death of his parents, which occurred when he was about three years old, he made his home with a married sister and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Amos Hutchinson, with whom he came to Iowa about the year, 1837. They settled on a tract of land west of where Lowell now stands. In the year, 1853, he was united in marriage to Mary D. Bunker and had five children....." Note: it was after the death of his mother in childbirth with his sister Margaret (Shannon) Booth that he went to live with Julia Ann and Amos. His father, George, eventually remarried a Phebe and had at least two more children.

From Henry County History, 1888 p. 449. Margaret Shannon Booth, William's sister, stated that William was married four times - Mary Bunker, Romanza Reed, Julia Dillon, and Sarah E. Powell. Another name shows up later - Nancy - closer to his death. He lived into his 90s.
