He was born on February 1, 1931 in the Town of Meeme, (Manitowoc County), a son of the late Stephen and Katherine Schmitz Olig.
Al attended Holy Trinity Catholic Grade School.
He enlisted in the U. S. Air Force in January, 1950 and served at several air bases in the U. S., Clark Field in the Philippine Islands, and Kimpo Air Base, Seoul, Korea. He earned his G.E.D. while in the service. He was discharged in January, 1954.
On July 2, 1955, he married Audrey J. Schwartz at St. Peter and Paul Church in Kiel.
Al was employed at Borden Foods, Plymouth for 10 years and for 32 years at Sargento Foods, retiring in July, 1996.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and also was an associate member of St. Vincent dePaul Society and the Salvation Army.
Al having courageously fought the battle of cancer for over 25 years would like to give other individuals hope in fighting this disease.
Survivors include his wife Audrey of Plymouth; Four sons: Brian J. (Helen) Olig of Jackson, Steven Olig of Brown Deer, Douglas (Kim) Olig of Evergreen, CO, and Mark (Jayne) Olig of Holland, MI; One daughter: Barbara (Tom) Hermann of Green Bay; Fifteen grandchildren; Thirteen great grandchildren and Two brothers: Edward (Mary) Olig of St. Nazianz and David (Theresa) Olig of Portage.
He was preceded in death by One sister: Dorothy; Two brothers: Robert and Donald Olig; and Two brothers-in-law Herbert and Eugene Schwartz.
A memorial mass will be held on Friday (Sept. 23) at 4:00 P.M. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth. Rev. Dennis Van Beek, Pastor of the church will officiate. Cremation has taken place and Inurnment will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call at the CHURCH on Friday afternoon, from 2:00 P.M. until the time of services.
The Plymouth VFW World Cheese Center Post # 5612 will conduct military rites at the Church following the services.
